Classroom Process

We brought ingredients to make pizza the second time we went to the Arc School. Students were able to follow a recipe and create a pizza that could cook in the microwave. We also brought worksheets with us that tested the students level of knowledge about mixed fractions. from our visit, we learned that they loved having control over what they were doing and hands on activities.

We created our game which was designed to help students better understand mixed fractions. The game gives them experience with mixed fractions and allows them to solve problems that relate to a topic of interest of theirs, cooking. The students were very drawn into the concept of food and cooking our first visit and we decided to base our game off of this interest. They were drawn into the pizza making because it was hands on and they were able to have control of what they were doing. Cookie Creations gives the students the same feeling of independence while learning about fractions.
